Dedicated to improving the cardiovascular health of citizens of BC and beyond

A number of members of the UBC Division of Cardiology have strong track records of successful scientific research. However, a lack of centralized resources and infrastructure has limited the scope of their research, particularly their ability to manage and coordinate large prospective multicentre clinical trials. The provision to cardiovascular investigators, of substantial, sustained and centralized research personnel, physical infrastructure and institutional memory is expected to dramatically enhance the scope and success of their research.

CCI provides cardiovascular researchers with multiple benefits including cost efficient infrastructure, continuity, and greater autonomy in research planning and conduct. This approach has been undertaken with success in other regions of Canada such as Hamilton, Ontario (the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI)) and locally in the Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC). CCI will help facilitate cardiovascular research collaboration among all tertiary care institutions in BC and help negotiate a transformative data sharing agreement with the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). CCI will establish BC as both a national and a global leader in all aspects of cardiovascular research.
