Dr. Davina Banner is a Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia and resides on the ancestral and un-ceded territory of the Lheidli T’enneh. Davina leads an interdisciplinary program of research that is focused on cardiovascular and rural health, along with research that advances the science and practice of integrated knowledge translation and patient-oriented research. Through her research, Davina seeks to improve the health of Canadians living with complex health conditions, along with studying methods and practices that support meaningful co-production in research. Dr. Banner has worked with populations that face barriers to engagement in research, actively adopting equity principles and practices.

Research and Expertise

Dr. Davina Banner leads an interdisciplinary program of scholarship that is grounded in collaborative and inclusive modes of research. Across her career, Davina has applied research and clinical expertise to generate practice-relevant evidence and support its uptake through innovative knowledge translation (KT) approaches. Davina’s overarching goal is to generate and mobilize impactful, relevant, and timely evidence that improves health system and patient outcomes.

Davina’s research program comprises three overlapping focal areas:

  1. The identification, management and support of persons living with complex cardiovascular and chronic conditions;
  2. The development of innovative professional practice and health-service delivery in rural and northern communities; and
  3. Methods and practices of research co-production, with special attention to integrated knowledge translation (IKT) and patient-oriented research.
